President Donald Trump plans to visit Texas this weekend following Hurricane Laura.
“We’ll probably drive on Saturday or Sunday and go to Texas and Louisiana and maybe another stop,” Trump said this afternoon (Thursday) during a visit to the Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Trump said he was willing to postpone his speech Thursday night at the Republican National Convention due to the hurricane, but “we were a little lucky.”
“It was very big, it was very powerful, but it passed quickly and so everything is planned,” Trump said of the storm.
Around the same time Trump was speaking, state leaders held a press conference in Orange and expressed a similar sentiment. Major General Greg Abbott said the state “avoided a bullet” with the hurricane, which caused a fall early Thursday morning in southwestern Louisiana, but was quickly improved by a Category 4 storm.
