After proclaiming to the world that she likes Balenciaga that they “look like socks” (among numerous other fashion house names), it seems that Cardi B’s dreams have finally manifested in style. This morning, the mother Balenciaga herself unveiled her first advertising campaign for the brand on Instagram, also on top of a billboard in Paris.
“You’re seeing the face of a @Balenciaga campaign!” She captioned her post. “I remember what it felt like to see myself on a billboard in New York Times Square, but PARIS! I wish I was there to see it in person!” The giant billboard is located right next to the Louvre, the same place where Beyonce and Jay-Z shot their “Apeshit” video.
The picture shows Cardi lying on a lawn surrounded by Balenciaga’s new Neo Classic alongside trucks, dolls, and other children’s toys, no doubt a nod to the toys of her 2-year-old daughter Kulture. According to WWD, her dark evening gown was selected by creative director Demna Gvasalia, and the winter campaign was self-produced and self-produced during the lockdown in Los Angeles.
Although this is the singer’s first “WAP” campaign for the home, she has worn the brand’s items numerous times under Gvasalia, including a memorable statuesque coat and matching Scottish boots from her Fall 2018 collection.
“By removing some steps in a typical campaign production, a contemporary way of creating fashion imagery is brought to life, bridging the gap between fantasy and experience,” Balenciaga said in a statement, per WWD. “From the comfort and confinement of a familiar place, with near-limitless creative control, the stars of the Winter ’20 campaign share an emotional side of dressing alone — for one’s self, or for today’s multiple modes of staying in touch from afar.”
