Kamala Harris slammed for ‘cringe’ response to border questions: ‘Not a joke to laugh at’

Critics criticized Harris for being “unable to respond” and for thinking that the border crisis was “a hilarious joke.”
Vice President Kamala Harris received much criticism Tuesday after her uneasy response to questions about the current border crisis.

Harris was interviewed by NBC’s Lester Holt when she was going to the border, a question she has asked herself since she took over border crisis management for the Biden administration in March.

Harris claimed that she “went to the border,” apparently referring to other administration officials, to whom Holt responded that Harris, in particular, had not gone to the border.

“And I haven’t been to Europe. I mean, I don’t understand what you mean,” she replied, laughing.

Harris was skinned on social media in the wake of the response, and some of her, including Republican members of Congress, told her it was “not a laughing joke” and criticized her for taking the situation at the border lightly. Others pointed to Harris’s “inability” to answer the question, noting that the discussion revolved around “a crisis, not a vacation.”

“Really, really awkward,” tweeted “The View” co-host Meghan McCain.

Harris traveled to Guatemala and Mexico on Monday to address concerns about illegal immigration, and she held her first border press conference since she assumed crisis management 75 days earlier.

The trip followed Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei, who blamed the Biden government a day earlier for the increase in the number of migrants trying to reach the United States. Harris said her migration was a top priority, but contrary to her claim against the administration, she blamed climate change and Central American economies as the main drivers of illegal immigration.
