Mamoru Oshii: “I’m glad you can see it in the theater today.”
A 4K remaster version of Mamoru Oshii’s Ghost in the Shell, an anime based on Masamune Shirow’s sci-fi comic of the same name, will go on sale on September 17 in Japan and the United States in IMAX format. It will be shown in 35 IMAX cinemas in Japan, and then on October 1 in ordinary theaters.
Since its release in 1995, the film has topped the Billboard weekly U.S. sales video chart, becoming a worldwide hit, influencing its perfect futuristic imagination, dynamic sequence of action, and universal theme that calls into question the “essence of humanity.” many creators of the world.
For this special screening of the film, the redesigned 4K images have been adapted to high detail in every detail, including sound, brightness and contrast, using IMAX’s image processing technology. 4K resolution reveals a lot of blank data that is not reproduced in the original 35 mm film with the technology used during the release.
